De afgelopen tijd heb ik me door deze indrukwekkende studie van Marjo Korpel heen geworsteld: A rift in the clouds: Ugaritic and Hebrew descriptions of the divine (Korpel, 1990). In dit proefschrift vergelijkt zij de Bijbelse voorstelling van het goddelijke met de Oegaritische. Het oude Oegarit lag in Kanaän (nu Syrië) en had een taal en cultuur die dicht bij de Bijbelse staat, wat begin vorige eeuw duidelijk is geworden door de vondst van een grote verzameling kleitabletten uit de 13e en 12e eeuw v.C. Korpel en haar promotor Johannes de Moor zijn experts op dit gebied en hebben beiden veel vergelijkend onderzoek gedaan.
